Geography, Geology and Planning
The geology program is strongly oriented toward fieldwork and practical "hands-on" experience. Numerous courses include field trips or field research projects. In addition, the department offers three courses devoted exclusively to field studies: Field Geology of the Midcontinent Region; Field Geology (the six-week summer "field camp" run in conjunction with the University of Missouri-Columbia at its field station in western Wyoming); and Directed Field Trips (the annual departmental spring break field trip).
Students in the geology program have an unusually good opportunity to be involved in research because of the significant amount of research conducted by the faculty. Superior students in the geology program are encouraged to design and complete individual research projects under the direct supervision of faculty members of their own choosing.
Students in the geology program have the opportunity to extend their educational experience and participate in social activities through membership in the Missouri State University Geology Club, Sigma Gamma Epsilon (the national earth science honorary society), and Heart of the Ozarks Grotto (the caving club).
