Temple Hall

Our department occupies lecture and laboratory space in Temple Hall. These facilities allow you to learn the principles of modern cartography, geographic information systems, remote sensing and more.

You will learn these principles using the latest computers and software available. Our computer software includes:

  • GIS Mapping tools (ArcMap)
  • Remote Sensing programs (ENVI)
  • Seismic modeling programs
  • Various commercial and in-house programs to analyze and model gravity, magnetic, seismic, electrical, GPR and electromagnetic data including Oasis-Montaj, Intrepid, Winglink, Earthimager, Radexplorer, Phoenix, PetrosEikon

Research and surveying equipment

Our department maintains many pieces of equipment that are used by geoscientists in the field:

  • Geophysical equipment including gravity meters (L&R Burris), magnetometers (Geometrics Proton Precession and Cesium sensors), electrical resistivity imaging system (ARES), VLF-EM receiver (ABEM), 24 channel seismic system (Bison), Ground penetrating radar (Mala), broadband magnetotelluric system (Phoenix), eletromagnetic system (GSSI), magnetic susceptibility meters (Barrington handheld and lab), rock density meter
  • Global Position Systems (GPS), including differential GPS receivers (Topcon, Trimble)
  • Electronic distance measuring equipment
  • Surveying equipment

Geospatial facilities

Our facilities for geospatial sciences include separate labs for GIS and cartography as well as remote sensing analysis. These labs contain numerous personal computers, printers, plotters and digitizers for student use. The software available to these students is continually reviewed and selected by faculty to ensure that our students have access to the best software possible.

Duane G. Meyer Library

Meyer Library is home to the state of Missouri's only United Nations document depository as well as research assistance and resources for our students. In addition Meyer Library houses an extensive Maps Collection where you can find cartographic materials including:

  • Aerial photographs
  • Atlases
  • Geographic reference works
  • Globes
  • Maps
  • Travel information
