Research and professional interests
Toby Dogwiler am broadly trained in field-based and remote monitoring of surficial processes and watershed dynamics with an emphasis on environmental issues in karst terrains and agricultural areas. Currently, his primary research focus is on the development and application of methodologies for drone-based remote sensing related to environmental, agricultural, and conservation problems. His current research focuses include:
- Developing methodologies for two-dimensional drone-based mapping and imaging in RGB and multispectral bands.
- Assessing and streamlining structure from motion (SfM) photogrammetry methodologies with a particular focus on the relationship between image acquisition techniques and the overall quality and accuracy of the resulting three-dimensional models, especially digital elevation models (DEMs).
- Developing methodologies for change detection in environmental, agricultural, and conservation systems and quantification of the accuracy and precision of these methodologies.
- Developing standards and protocols for drone-based scientific methods, including mission planning and design, field-based techniques of data acquisition, data processing methodologies, error analysis and quantification, and data archival standards.
